Dear San Marco Church Family: I left our worship service last Sunday very encouraged! I believe that we have a truly diverse community at San Marco Church, and I am so inspired by the way so many of you routinely step up and serve the church in a variety of ways. Doing church life well requires solid teamwork, and I believe that we work well together. For that, I am grateful. We are working toward a specific ministry for children and parents at San Marco Church, but before we set anything in place, I want to hear from you! So immediately after church on Sunday, January 19, I invite you to the church parlor for a general discussion about how we want to approach children’s and parents’ ministry. I realize that we have many members who are not parents, and I certainly want our ministries to address their needs as well. However, one very interesting part of our ordination vows in the United Methodist Church is a vow to oversee the teaching and discipleship of children. I want to honor that vow in my leadership at San Marco Church to the best of my ability. This Sunday, January 12, we will remember our baptism with a special aspect of worship during our communion time. The scripture passage for the day is Luke 3:15-16 and 21-22, and it refers to the baptism of Jesus. I invite you to consider your identity. What is the first thing you think of when someone asks you about your identity? The most important identifier for followers of Jesus is “beloved child of God.” This identity defines us and guides every aspect of our lives. May we never take it for granted! Finally, I welcome your questions and ideas about sermons or sermon series ideas that interest you. Feel free to email me anytime with your questions and ideas at stevehart100@gmail.com. As always, I remain grateful to serve as your pastor, and I look forward to seeing you Sunday! Steve Hart
