Dear San Marco Church Family: Happy New Year! I almost always find the beginning of a new year to be an invigorating time. Something about having a fresh start and new adventures in life gives me hope. I have mentioned before that many years ago someone encouraged me about the future by explaining that the Holy Spirit goes ahead of us into the future, “poking holes in the darkness” and leading us with the light of Christ. This word of encouragement stuck with me, and I will apply it to my perspective on what God has in store for San Marco Church in 2025. In our December meeting, our leadership team discussed how we might develop a children’s ministry at SMC. We set a goal of having something concrete in place by February, even if in the beginning it is only certain Sundays each month. Friends, I need a couple of committed church members who are willing to spearhead this ministry. I have a few ideas, some of which involve having times for parents to meet together and share the joys and frustrations of parenting. If you have any interest in helping me develop this ministry, please email me at stevehart100@gmail.com or call or text me at (321) 368-6800. I have a goal in 2025 of developing my relationships with our members by setting aside time for casual conversations. In order to serve effectively as your pastor, I want to hear your stories. What do you value about the San Marco Church community? What do you want to see more (or less) of in our time together? What are your joys as a follower of Christ? What are your doubts and struggles, and how can the church help? I have served in ministry in either a full or part-time capacity for the past 24 years, and I have learned that all fruitful ministry is a team effort, and the best teams are composed of people who have taken the time to get to know each other. While my schedule is busy with my full time legal job, it is a priority for me to get to know as many of you as possible. You can help me in this regard by reaching out to me with a suggested day and time when can meet. I am happy to meet in your home or at a local coffee shop or other location. Finally, I hope you will plan now to be present in worship this Sunday, January 5, for our first service of the new year. Consider inviting a friend to come with you to start the new year with the hope of the gospel. I remain grateful to serve as your pastor, and I look forward to seeing you Sunday! Steve Hart
